Founded in 1984, Safety Equipment Australia Pty Ltd (SEA), a leading name and specialist in respiratory protection, has been supplying the Australian and New Zealand markets with a range of premium respiratory and associated products across all industries. This year SEA is celebrating its 40th anniversary, 40-year of protecting people.
SEA is the exclusive importer and wholesaler of Sundström respiratory products. Developed and manufactured in Sweden since 1926, Sundström offers a comprehensive suite of first-class respiratory equipment which are user-friendly and designed to be used as a system. Sundström provides the highest respiratory protection available that is both efficient and comfortable and meets Australian Standards and industrial workplace requirements.
Safety Equipment Australia is also the exclusive Australian Agent for Interspiro SCBA, Alphatech Trellchem reusable suits and the Solo Rescue® decon washer.
The Solo Rescue® decontamination washer fits perfectly in line with its respiratory protection product range and is designed specifically for fast, efficient and consistent cleaning of large quantities of breathing apparatuses, facepieces, helmets, gloves, boots and other personal protection equipment.
SEA distributes through a network of well-established Australian and New Zealand distributors.
ISO 9001 certified, SEA has been operating under a Quality Management System since 1993, contributing to deliver products and services of the highest quality in a consistent manner. SEA is committed to continually improve quality to meet and exceed customers’ needs and expectations.
The Sydney head office comprises an in-house design & engineering department, sales, administration, warehouse, technical service, test laboratory facilities and manufacturing.
Since 1985, Safety Equipment Australia has been involved with Australian and International standards committees and in recent years, in several working groups within ISO contributing to developing Australian Standards in Occupational Respiratory Protection.

Education, information, support
Safety Equipment Australia provides pre- and post-sale customer service, technical advice and maintenance support, as well as end-user training across all industries with permanent local sales representations in QLD, VIC, WA and NSW supporting all states and territories as well as New Zealand.
Support includes training programs, access to SEA chemical database of hazardous substances, an extensive library, respiratory papers, research reports, and web-based resources.
Over the years, SEA has built up a strong knowledge base both in terms of human resources, information material and training resources. The company’s information material has become well-known for its quality and extent – especially in the field of training, where highly acclaimed educational programs are available free on SEA website.
With its in-house testing and service facilities, SEA incorporates a well-equipped test laboratory and service workshop, run by a team of highly qualified personnel. These facilities contribute not only to quality checking, service and repairs, but also to the possibility of custom-building equipment for customers with specific needs.
Research and Development
Safety Equipment Australia’s head office set up with its in-house engineering facilities, test laboratory and tool workshops, conducts its own R&D in designing, developing and manufacturing products and associated products in the field of respiratory protection. Over the years, the company has produced its own positive pressure demand PAPR respirator systems, communication equipment, protective suits and accompanying safety management software. One of the latest innovations is the SE-RDA, a real-time Respiratory Data Analyser, a device slated as an essential part of any sophisticated respiratory management program.
The company performs in-house TIL filtration efficiency testing and researches into breathing physiology, breathing apparatus performance and the interface between wearer and equipment producing research papers.
SEA is regularly consulted by various organisations in the field of respiratory and has been actively involved in university research into respiratory protection.
International Recognition
The SE-Shield product range, designed and manufactured in-house by SEA, has achieved worldwide recognition for its performance in domestic preparedness and emergency situations. Australian Standard approved, the equipment is manufactured according to strict ISO-9002 quality control, and has INSPEC (EU) approvals.
